AI has made code easier to produce. You can now move from idea to M.V.P. in a matter of minutes rather than days.

When the cost of producing software reduces, the number of slop-ware software being produced increases. We can take AI generated media (images, videos and music) as a solid example.

Hence, the number of Saas products and start-ups has surged. Even in my local circles and it is a good thing.

Yet, when starting a software or Saas business, there are still a lot of questions to answer than just code, like;

• Is the idea even worth it? or, is it a solution in search of a problem?
• How do I even know there is a problem?
• How do I market my product?
• How do I maintain this product if the user base grows?

It sounds easier now than ever before to build a product, get users, bill them, make money and then go on podcasts, invest in war-tech, become evil, lobby the government, buy mega-yachts.

Until it isn’t.

Firstly, Screens are making people tired. The idea of subscriptions is becoming a dread. Everything is about to become a subscription. Productivity tools rarely help.

Right now, the problem a SAAS product is trying to solve has to be very important for someone to use it and be loyal to it.

Sadly, CRUD doesn’t carry moat anymore. If you want to build a product, is has to be a sophisticated CRUD, Deep-Tech or Hard-Tech product. If not, someone on reddit could “Claude code” your entire moat.

Also marketing is a great deal. I won’t flog what has already been flogged hundreds of times over.
Yet, I always see a new SAAS product on my university’s group chats every week. Marketing is a greater deal than ever before. Its either your product is so helpful or your marketing is so unique.

Lastly, for founders or creators, your code is your responsibility. AI may write the code, but, users trust you with their sensitive data. They expect your product to solve their problems.

So, before you ship another AI-baked Amazon clone for founders in East Africa, ask yourself: is this a problem worth solving, or just an addition to the noise.
