It’s been 3 weeks since I’ve moved to Linux (Fedora Workstation).
Overall, it has been a really great experience.
User experience has been through the roof. GNOME’s minimalism and the way all apps have the same look, makes understanding them way easier. The workspaces view like macOS is cool too. The only thing about the OS is the workspaces view. It really gets out of the way.
What about bash (Linux Command Line)? I’m an intermediate Powershell 7 user on windows (not to brag). Moving to Linux wasn’t that big of a deal. I just needed to know now that it’s streams instead of objects. I still hate the way some commands run on linux btw1
System Performance. my PC uses 1.8GB of RAM on idle. thats around 14.2 GB left to myself (and other apps). Normally, A few Chromium browswer tabs (6 - 10 tabs) and 2 VSCode instances will make my laptop choke on Windows. On Linux, I usually open (8 - 10) Zen tabs, 3 Codium instances, 2 terminal instances and a couple of other apps and it still feels smooth.
Peace of mind. Most of the software here are made by people who love building software not just wanting to milk your money or attention or anything. The only pro app I use is Obsidian. There’s this underlying peace that you are using a PC that is set up for you to enjoy.
What about university work? Report Writing? All that Jazz?
I’ve graduated, so that doesn’t matter anymore
I’ve heard battery life isn’t nice on linux?
Well, it’s not their fault, most manufacturers optimize their batteries for windows. On fedora workstation though, you can use power saver mode to increase your battery lifespan by around 30% (at the expense of performance)
What about AI Agents, Antigravity, Cursor and Codex? Aren’t you leaving them all behind?
First of all? I don’t use desktop harnesses, but there are desktop harnesses available for linux2.
Windows is more AI native. What do you have to say about that?

Agents have a better time working on linux than on Windows.
When looking at agent trails on Windows, LLMs often waste tool calls and tokens on Linux commands before realizing that they are in a Windows environment.
Linux is also transparent about its architecture, turns out agents know a lot about its internals way more than you think they do. Do with that what you may.
